APLIM - VR project

The APLIM - VR project is a French incubator project, in cooperation with Germany, integrating virtual reality in foreign language learning, particularly English, the lingua franca between French and German students.

PEDAGOGY BY PROJECT

The project is made up of three activities that teachers in both countries integrate to their syllabi. There are seven schools, four in France and three in Germany. These activities were designed with task-based language lerarning in mind by an innovation expert from Germany. Each one of them focuses on one particular virtual reality app: Holobuilder, CoSpaces and vTime. Each activity has students work collaboratively with their peers in an intercultural setting that creates authentic, both asynchronous and synchronous, communication opportunities in the foreign language. Thanks to the technical equipment made available to the schools, such as smartphones, 360° cameras autonomous virtual reality headsets and mobile virtual reality headsets, students can make real experiences in virtual environments and acquire both linguistics skills freferring to the Common European Framework of References for Languages, and 21st century skills, commonly known as the 4Cs (Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Critical thinking).

APLIM SCIENTIFIC Project - VR

My team and I want to learn about the effects of using virtual reality in the learning of a foreign language from the point of view of commitment and attentional focus. Our research revolves around studies, experiments, observations and interviews that should enable us to identify the potentials and the limits of the use of virtual reality in language learning.
